The Jeep Cherokee’s common-rail direct injection engine is basically a larger, more powerful 2.8-litre version of the 2.5-litre diesel already available with the Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee, despite its all-American heritage, gains a direct-injection diesel and matching five-speed automatic transmission from Mercedes-Benz – one of the benefits of the Daimler-Chrysler tie-up.
Whereas traditional diesel engines use a mechanical pump to fire fuel to individual injectors, the CRD engine uses a high-pressure pump to deliver the produce via a single fuel rail.
.For acceleration, the 2.7-litre diesel is only slightly off the mark compared to the Grand Cherokee’s standard 4.7-litre petrol V8 – 11.2sec for the 0-100km/h – and mostly makes light work of lugging its hefty 1925kg body around.
The Grand Cherokee’s V8 produces more power, but the diesel offers impressive torque figures. Both produce a similar peak of around 400Nm, but the diesel achieves this at much lower revs – between 1800-2600rpm – which makes it a better proposition for off-road driving and towing.
In fact, the diesel has the best towing capacity (3360kg) in the Grand Cherokee line-up, which is good news for those wanting to pull a big boat, caravan or horse float.
The diesel’s low-down pulling power came to the fore during the more challenging off-road sections. With a good spread of torque early on, and low-range gearing, the diesel Grand Cherokee takes steep, slippery inclines in its stride. Good height clearance combined with a plush ride also allows it to sweep along rutted fire trails with ease.
The Grand Cherokee also copes well with steep declines, despite the lack of any electronic descent aids common on many of its rivals. Again, low-range combined with controlled engine braking allows for a safer crawl down sharp drops.Front and back-side curtain airbags, as well as front airbags, are now standard, as are rain sensing front wipers. Many people cannot afford the luxury of buying a brand new car and are therefore forced into the unknown world of the used car! I say this because every single car you buy which is second hand is very hard to predict. With the best will in the world, there could be something wrong with the car you buy, and no amount of warranties will protect you from everything. That being said, there are ways to minimise the possibility of this happening.
The first thing you ought to do is to be sure to buy something with full service history. This way you can check to make sure that the car has been serviced at regular intervals, and you should also be able to tell if the mileage is genuine. Another thing that you can do is to make sure you buy something with a great reputation for reliability. Search on the car you are after and look for reviews. It is well worth reading quite a few of these to get an overall picture.
The best thing in my eyes that you can do is to make sure you conduct your used car search online. You will find prices on average to be much lower online because there is a more competitive market in place. This means that should there be anything wrong with your car, you can at least take solace in the fact that you saved money in the first place by buying online.

New Ford Fiesta
It is in the recent times that the craze for smaller vehicles has increased. In Asia the old joint family structure is breaking. A new generation is emerging who have brought radical changes in the family values and the structure of a family which has become smaller and fissiparous. Thus, the need was felt for a more compact car, which is suitable for a modern family, comprising of parents and two children. Most well known car makers are therefore putting their efforts in designing smaller cars with a low fuel consumption and also down to earth cost. This race was fuelled in the seventies when the OPEC cartel had hiked petroleum prices.
The New Ford Fiesta is the second vehicle which Ford is bringing out in the small car segment. Ford has tried to outsource a lot of manufacturing costs by opening units in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, China, India and South Africa. Having cut costs Ford has passed on all the benefits to the customers making it very competitive and affordable in the small car section. The New Ford Fiesta is a front wheel drive super small family car and is marketed in most countries of the world including Japan, Australasia and the Americas.
While the New Ford Fiesta has been creating ripples all over the world, the firm has different plans for emerging sectors like India and South East Asia. It has launched two new vehicles which are suited to the local markets in the form of Diesel and petrol variants. The petrol variant is for the up market customers who want power with speed while the diesel version is for those who value fuel economy since turbo Diesel engines have better mileage. This is particularly important in future as the world price of fuel is bound to rise as these two economies –China and India will be gobbling up larger shares of the global crude production to fuel their economic growth to 8 or 9 percent. These two economies are also very attractive destination for used or second hand ford fiesta sales.

Value for money was Kia’s big claim, with the Firm pointing out that the Rio was a four or five door, well equipped and had a 1.5-litre engine. Both Daewoo, and Hyundai, which now owns Kia, have also moved in a very different design direction for their entry-level hatches with the Kalos and Getz adopting taller more versatile Euro-style bodies. Visually, the car has been sharpened up at the front end with new bonnet and sheetmetal forward of the A-pillar, while the tail has also undergone some styling modifications. But it is mechanically that Kia states the biggest improvements have been made.Bigger brakes pull the car up easily although caution is advised in the wet as they are quick to lock up and the 13-inch Hankook tyres don’t offer a great deal of grip. The stiffer body and stronger suspension does, however, mean that the ride is less comfortable. It’s average over smooth tarmac, but as soon as you get onto rougher urban roads, the car jiggles about and nearly every imperfection in the road surface can be felt through the seats. Kia claims the seats use a new variable density foam for comfort but they still feel too thin and don’t offer much support on longer trips. They are covered in a new cloth trim, which now also features on the doors, but like the rest of the interior, remain an inoffensive, but rather bland grey. Space inside is reasonable up front, with plenty of storage cubbies and good door bins, but rear headroom and especially legroom, is minimal. There is only a lap belt for the centre rear passenger. The boot is a decent size with a capacity of 269 litres that can be expanded by folding the one-piece rear seat back down.Kia’s value for money spin means that the car is reasonably well equipped and comes standard with central locking, driver airbag and radio/CD player Search Used BMW Cars For Sale Wexford for a car you desire.

A lot of us like nice cars and many of us would like to drive one of those fancy sport cars. But with todays economy the way it is it comes as no surprise that many people cannot afford such a car. Fuel consumption is also a big hindrance to the sports cars today. One thing to avoid right now is a car which financially is expensive to run. There is a car that can get you where you need to go and can save you a lot of money on fuel. This car is called a smart car.
smart car has two types. The first is an electric car which runs on batteries. To charge the battery you just need to connect it to a wall socket and once it is full connect it to the car. The smart car battery usually lasts between four and eight hours.
The alternative smart is the fuel operated car. Depending on where and how you drive it will get up to 55 miles per gallon. But the smart car has a much higher miles to the gallon average compared to most other cars.
The smart car is one of the smallest road vehicles. Even though it is a lot smaller than other cars the size can really benefit you. For one they can park almost anywhere. So the burden of hunting down a parking space is over as they can even be parked the wrong way round in a parallel parking spot.
And surprisingly the inside of the smart doesnt feel small and cramped either. The spacious inside allows both the driver and passenger to feel comfortable. And for the days you do some shopping there is still enough space to store that also. Check out these smart cars and you will not be disappointed.

Electric Car Conversion – Could Save The Planet
Times are tough moneywise globally at the moment.Motorfuel prices seem to just spiral skywards.Demand from rising economies inAsia is pushing up oil demand, Oil companies are raking in the shekels.
Cars are one of the biggest polluters on the planet because of the carbon dioxide they pump out every day. In 1997 there were over 600 million motor vehicles in the world and by 2030 it’s likely to be 1,200,000,000. That’s a lot of global warming.
Motor manufacturers see the elrctric car as their savior.Emission free cars!
Driving electric means no fuel bills, no money going into oil company coffers. It means less dependence on oil producers more political freedom.. It could mean less tension because of oil..
When car manufacturers this year released their first new electric cars many were glad they had already converted. One small electric car released by Mitsubishi in Australia costs a whopping $70,000.
If, like many bright sparks, you have an electric car then you are one of an increasing number of drivers trying to stop the poisoning of this planet. While that’s an admirable aim it’s not the sole reason people choose to have electric cars.
People have been converting their own cars to electric for some years now.
This was good news for the world DIY car market where a total conversion costs a mere $300 and that includes the manual telling you how to do it.This massive saving in cost is great reason for going green.Save the planet and save your greenbacks.Meanwhile BP is destroying the gulf of Mexico region..So BP can kiss my ass cos I don’t need gas.
Those highly priced new cars seem to defeat the idea of saving money on fuel costs. It makes more sense to just convert your own car and plug it in to the electric at home each night.
Having an electric motor vehicle means you soon get your money back. It only costs about $1 to charge your car from your electric plug at home. You can travel up to 100 miles (160.on a simple charge. And dont think electric cars are slow. You will get up to 55mph (88.5 kph). Plenty of electrics have already been charged for speeding..
The DIY conversions are quick to do and require no special mechanical knowledge. All you need is the DIY manual. Conversions can be done on any type of vehicle in any country.
My observations show one company in particular is a good bet for getting the manual and supporting advice. Not surprisingly the chap who wrote the manual and created the DIY electric conversion kit is a keen environmentalist. He and all his family have long ago converted their cars to electric and see electric motor vehicles as a great help for improving the environment. Google electric car kits info to get off the gas guzzling highway.

Across the pond in Japan the Honda CR-Z has been on sale for quite some time. Although here in the U.S., not much has been said about this new sporty hybrid. In fact, unless you are a car fanatic you may have never even heard about the CR-Z, but chances are, you will soon. Honda is shining the limelight on the CR-Z as it did in the past with the Acura NSX and Honda S2000; which both revolutionized the Honda lineup.. With the hopes that the CR-Z will attract the sports car crowd, Honda is taking a bit of a risk. From first looks the 2011 Honda CR-Z seems like a confused car. Yes it is called a hybrid sports car, but it does not get that great of gas mileage nor is it very sporty. So, what gives? Why would Honda showcase a middle rung vehicle? Peak power checks in at a lowly 122 HP and fuel economy comes in at 36 MPG city and 38 MPG highway. For comparison; the S2000 produced 200 HP and the Civic Hybrid provides 40 MPG city and 45 MPG highway.
Although small the CR-Z is not very light for a two seater car. It weighs in at 2560 lbs. It’s powered by a 1.5 liter engine taken from the Honda Fit, blend that with an electric motor and the result is a puny 122 HP and 128 lb-ft. torque. But, what 2011 Honda CR-Z is missing in power it makes up with a stiff chassis and great suspension. On the inside the CR-Z makes it known; this is a Honda. The futuristic guages are perfectly placed. There is plenty of space for two adults and the ergonomics are terrific. As with any new Honda, you can purchase extra options, but this can increase the price to upwards of $28k. The modest 1.5 liter engine features an aluminum block with Hondas famed DOHC V-tech. The compression ratio is 10.4:1. This makes for 111 HP and 106 lb-ft. torque from the engine. The electric motor increases the horsepower by 11 and the torque by 22 extra lb-ft which assists the line acceleration. The CR-Z also has Honda’s integrated motor assist which is present in all Honda hybrids. Honda start/stop technology is on board as well, to turn off the engine during normal times of idle. . The engine is activated again by simply hitting the accelerator pedal. The continuously variable transmission keeps the engine in its sweet spot.
All these fuel saving technologies combine to give the CR-Z a rating of 36 MPG city and 38 MPG highway. The CR-Z also comes with 3 driving modes: sport, normal, economy. Choose any mode with the simple push of a button. Sport mode adds aggressive performance and steering. Economy mode maximizes fuel efficiency. The 2011 Honda CR-Z does 0-60 mph in 10.6 seconds, and finishes the quarter mile in 17.6 seconds. Which is incredibly slow, but again, the corners are where the CR-Z shines. Millions of Mazda Miata owners can attest to the fact that power alone does not make for a good track car. The CR-Z has wonderful steering feel and breaking ability. The suspension consists of MacPherson struts with stiff springs. There are also anti-roll bars and torsion beams. The Honda CR-Z does well on the highways and only time will tell if this little $20k sports hybrid will perform on the track. So is there a market for the CR-Z? We will know soon enough.
