Year Item Price Rate of Inflation 03/80 Gasoline (per gallon) 1.252 03/05 Gasoline (per gallon) 2.065 2.02%
The expense of filling up your car’s fuel tank is rising again. Because crude oil rates are climbing fast, prices at the pump could exceed the highs of 2009.
You’ll find economic causes of course like the falling surpluses along with the falling dollar. Cold climate plays a big role as well.
If consumers got low cost energy in 2009, the trend for 2010 may very nicely be upwards.
Crude oil could be the first component. Add to that the taxes, refining costs, advertising and distribution of fuel to get a final pump price.

What is Inflation?
For example, a gallon of normal unleaded gasoline was 1.252 in March of 1980. Comparatively, that same gallon was priced at 2.065 in March of 2005. Therefore, over the final 25 years, the cost of a gallon of gasoline has greater at an common annual fee of inflation of 2.02%. As one more example, in the course of the similar 25 calendar year period, the price of white bread elevated at an annual fee of 2.80%.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is widely accepted as the measurement of common inflation within the United States. The CPI is calculated monthly by the U.S. Division of Labor – Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Simply stated, the CPI tells us the common change around time in the cost of merchandise and services. From March 1980 to March 2005, the inflation of normal merchandise and expert services averaged 3.59% annually.
How is Inflation Relevant?
When saving for retirement, college, a house, or merely budgeting for the next 12 months, the price of goods and solutions have a direct impact on your goals. Because of inflation, your objectives may perhaps cost far more in the potential than today. A meal that prices $10 these days may well charge $10.36 in a single year. A vehicle that prices $10,000 today might charge $10,359 in one year, and nearly $12,000 in only five years. So, when planning for that future, you must consider inflation along with the impact it may perhaps have on your goals.
Ever felt envious of the superfast Formula 1 racers? It’s true that you don’t become a racer overnight. It all starts with go karting. No matter where you’re living, go karting is your key to getting there. It’s an activity that gives great pleasure to people of all ages. The best part is that it’s a fun activity and you aren’t going to regret it.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have a favorite yet in your local area, you can spend some time in trying a few go karting venues. This will give you an opportunity to identify which courses you like best. For the most part, go karting is safe. These companies adhere to safety methods making obtainable automobiles as well as accessories that are standard rather than something which would be hazardous. A part of the responsibility lies with you. Never opt for a go karting option that’s not reputable because you never know when you become a victim of an unmanaged race track.
When checking a go kart venue, be certain to lay emphasis on safety parameters. Check their equipment inventory and the licenses they have. A legal go kart venue would have the licenses put on display publicly. This helps build customer base and faith. Take a good look at the go kart tracks to get a fair idea about where the turns are. Such go kart companies do enough to ensure that all bends and turns are designed well so that they aren’t too sharp and this prevents the incident of accidents.
You need not start racing with others at a go kart if you’re just starting out. It’s a good idea to understand the track and little go kart so that you can race better. You can pay for the hour, half hour or for single races if you just want to take 1 or 2 rounds at the go karting venue. It’s important that you don’t get irritated when racing because there’s bound to be differences since many different people will be trying their go cart stunts at any given point of time. Some people would be slow and some just wouldn’t stop. Don’t let such limitations bother you because everyone’s here to have fun go karting.
In case your area has a heavy snowfall during wintertime, it’s not necessary to sacrifice on your go kart sessions. You can make a parallel shift from go karting outdoors and opt for indoor go kart tracks. There’s no need to fear your indoor go kart lessons because there are instructors in the circuit who’ll help you get started and excel. The best part about such an alternative is that you don’t have to wait for 6 months till you can go carting again.
Did you know that it basically took Audi 126.5 million years to finally agree with everyone alive that having a tall 4,6 or 8 cylinder engine set up high and way in front of the front axle does not do wonders to the handling of their front wheel drive sedans? Having pushed the existing A6, the prior era A4 (B7 sequence) as well as the previously kinds too, I need to state which substantial understeer could be the desired way for these kinds of front tyre push Audis in order to corner.
On the B7 A4 I remember driving it hard and it felt so nose heavy that even with a pointy nose it felt as if the steering was the one end of the stick and the other end was the large elephant hanging off of it. That A4 was a pretty good car and in 2.0TFSI form was a fast ride but the high speed handling on a twisty road was really bad. I would assume this trait would be lessened in the Quattro or All wheel drive version of the cars, but in the front wheel drive A4, it basically was awful.
Now this brings us to the current B8 Audi A4 1.8 TFSI launched around two years ago. The car I tried is owned by a friend of mine and it is a car that is very familiar to me. His ride pictured above is the 1.8TFSI 160bhp spec that comes with the larger 18inch tires and rims. It looks so much better than the stock 17inch rims that the standard car is specced with.
I suppose it was because of nearly universal criticism of mega understeer that Audi had finally decided to re-engineer the engine and gearbox placement of the A4. The wheels are now at least 8cm forward compared to the earlier setup and this equates to better handling as well steering feel. The car does not drive like you were sitting just slightly behind an arrow’s head in flight. You actually have a car in which does not fight the laws of physics all the time unlike the earlier versions.
This time it feels like you are traveling any entrance steering wheel generate vehicle using a typical transverse motor instead of a longitudinally positioned a single (though it may be still longitudinally put). Imagine driving a slightly larger Honda Civic (in terms of nippiness). This is the first 4 door front wheel drive Audi ever that behaves decently well.
There is very little sign of it being nose heavy like its predecessors. It is a car which you can fling into corners, of course there’s none of the tail out antics being a front wheel drive and it will only show mild understeer at speeds in excess of 150km/h on high speed sweeping corners. On tighter corners, it is poised and predictable, with the A4 managing to turn accurately and without much of the artificial steering sensation of the previous variable assist steering wheel. It still lacks feel, but it is better than the previous A4.
The ride and handling is sorted unlike previous A4s I had driven or been in. The handling of this car is just right for most drivers. i.e. pointy and the tail is obedient, even in the wet. This one has the switchable dynamic, automatic and comfort damping. The modes also adjust throttle mapping and steering feel too. I prefer dynamic (the slightly firmer setup) over comfort and even automatic as this is just totally fun to be in most of the time.
Of course the particular ‘comfort’ setting may make sure you a great deal of older individuals on the market and the ones that just would like this A4 being transport and nothing much more. The damping on all settings are so much better than the earlier ones which seems to be undamped or oversprung. The older B7 Audis have a choppy ride due to the over aggressive rebound shock absorber rates.
This 1.8liter A4 comes with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with 8 programmed shift points that has hardly any CVT yo-yo rubber band-like feeling like normal CVTs do and which I don’t like too much. It feels much like a normal autobox that would move through the gears without the revs seeming to hold at high rpms on normal CVTs. It feels punchy and because of this the A4 seemed to be in the correct gear during a kickdown or when you downshift manually with the flappy pedals behind the steering wheel. Anytime you stomped on the throttle the CVT would go down to at least 2 to 3 of its programmed gear ratios without any hesitation, especially if you’re in dynamic mode. This is by far the best CVT setup I’ve tried to date.
We have found out that the 160ps and 250Nm that the 1.8liter direct injection and turbocharged engine pumped out was more than adequate to take on most 2.0liter cars out in the market right now. You have to trust me on this as it has been done. Even on a damp road the ESP will blink like crazy if you’re wringing the A4 in those conditions. I think the official specs are a little under rated as I think it makes a more than the quoted 160ps.
Even against a 280bhp JDM Subaru Legacy 2.0GT on a stretch of highway it will pull away from the Scooby from 120km/h till approximately 180km/h. This is when the bigger capacity engine with its extra torque gives the large capacity car that top end advantage. Do not even compare with a BMW 320i. In a straight fight (whether on a race track or a drag race) the similar priced BMW will get flattened. You may be able to argue that the 320i is more fun to drive as it is rear wheel drive, but point to point, this Audi is the faster hands down.
It does things very well, but driving the A4 was a slightly clinical experience as it felt a little polished. It does things efficiently and maybe too efficiently in a way. Maybe its that elusive thing called soul which is abundant in cars which are slightly eccentric (like an Alfa Romeo 159). However, I suppose it still is a good upgrade to those who have spent their driving lives in cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer, Honda Civic or even the Golf GTI as its still front wheel drive and if you graduated from the Golf, you won’t get into a surprise driving a BMW 335i which may suddenly punt you tail first into a tree due to its rear wheel drive (oversteer) nature.
As for the interior, the car is larger than the previous model and has better rear legroom. I have only one complaint is that in right hand drive form in that the pedals may be tight fit for those with big feet. The materials utilized is actually regarding class leading common as well as should you evaluate between the BMW E90 3 sequence, the actual W204 C-class, you’d just choose from the particular Audi and also the C-Class because the substance quality within the 3 collection is cab such as when compared to two.
On the exterior of the car I’d have to say that it is a successful albeit slightly fussy interpretation of the Audi school of design. However, the stance of the car is good, especially with the 18inch wheels. From the front with those daytime driving lights on it looks like an R8 and from the rear three quarter, it looks low slung, like a coupe. However, it has lost some of the clean lines of the previous B7 model and from the A6 (which facelift borrows the rear light cluster setup – in design). But this look will attract people and that’s what Audi wants I suppose.
So what’s my verdict on this Audi? It’s a good car to drive and miles ahead of its predecessor, albeit slightly clinical. But Audis tend to be like this unless it has a either warbling 5 cylinder engine like in the original Quattro, a stonking 4.2liter V8 like in the RS4 or some Lamborghini derived V10 shoved into them. It is a good entry level executive car nonetheless.
Just like human beings, the vehicle wants to dissipate warm to be able to stay away from overheating and exhaustion. During combustion, the engine produces big amount of heat–about 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This is an excessive amount of for that engine to bear so a cooling system is required to maintain it at a standard temperature. Cars generally overheat due to a broken element inside cooling system, specifically the radiator, the heart with the cooling system. It is therefore essential that all its automobile elements ought to be in correct working condition to ensure that the entire system works efficiently.
All these vehicle components have unique roles to perform thus the absence of one could substantially impact the entire cooling course of action and of course, the engine’s performance. Even just the cap of your radiator is important. It holds the pressure inside cooing system; thereby, impacts its stability.
It may be said that to automobile owners their radiator and cooling methods are a minimum of familiar to them. Since an automobiles’ radiator and cooling hoses are readily visible under the hood, and it’s estimated that as much as 4 out of 5 vehicle owners routinely best up their own glycol anti-freeze liquids this really is no major revelation of motoring upkeep to most.
Without this essential cooling process within your “power-plant”, the warmth built up from the exploding gasoline vapors (in a fuel engine), would soon overheat and ultimately ruin your engine. Interestingly on the other hand, automotive cooling methods aren’t almost as crucial to your running and ongoing maintenance of diesel engines. Diesel engines last a full lot for a longer period than gas ones overall. Diesel fuels are basically waste oils; they don’t burn as hot.
The coolant, which is often a combination of anti-freeze and water, is the a single that absorbs the heat from your engine. It is drawn by the water pump from your radiator and is pumped by way of motor block and also the cylinder head to absorb the heat in the motor and its parts. It goes back towards the receiving tank with the radiator by way of the radiator hose. The radiator has tubes that contain big quantity of drinking water and has fin region to permit outside air to pass through. As the coolant spreads over the top rated of the radiator tubes, it transfers warmth towards the air.
Your cooling system is built so that a mixture of ethylene glycol antifreeze liquid and normal water flows in to the passages cast into your engine block, where it absorbs heat. A drinking water pump – typically a belt driven device, operating directly off your engine itself, circulates this scorching coolant liquid mixture, through the motor and then out through a regular auto coolant hose in to the radiator within your vehicle.
The engine can even be inutile in an instant if it overheats and all other car components underneath the hood may also be damaged.

Speed, competition and an enthusiasm for real cars on race tracks: This is what street car racing is all about. But when engines start to rev and the flag waver takes their marks, only one thing radiates from the street car racing enthusiast: pure exhilaration.
Street car racing is irrefutably gaining popularity as a sport; and while it takes its roots from a simpler mode of automobile racing which began in France during the late nineteenth century, it has evolved into a prevalent pastime in countries across the world. The United States, Australia, Brazil, Japan and much of Europe – among countless others – currently rank street car racing as a highly competitive sport.
Traditionally a domain of large, American cars with big block high capacity engines, street car racing on proper race tracks, now thrives with various types of vehicles contending. Recent trends have been towards cars of a lighter frame and hence, greater ‘moveability’. That being said, the sport of street racing has taken many forms. Recent films like ‘The Fast And The Furious’ and ‘Initial D’ have publicised the thrill of ‘drifting’, while drag racing still remains the predominant form of street car racing.
In drag racing, participants start the race from either a ‘dig’ or a ‘roll’ – the first method involving a stationary bumper-to-bumper drag race line up, while the second involves an initial ‘moving’ lineup at about 50 mph. Either way, drag-racing vehicles range from everyday cars to custom ‘dragsters’ built specifically for the purpose of accelerating as fast as mechanically possible.
Different people take an interest in street car racing for many different reasons: some are fascinated by the looks or construction of the vehicles and the motors themselves, while others simply love the thrill of racing, either as a participant or a spectator. Whatever the motives, the street car racing community is a large one – and one which seems destined to grow.
While street racing is largely illegal in most parts of the world today, there are many legitimate motoring events around the world that provide modified street cars or standard road going production cars the opportunity to race against one another or against the clock in well organized events on specifically designed race tracks and which ensure all safety precautions are maintained and appropriate safe racing practices applied.
When it comes to accessing legitimate information on street car racing, today’s motoring enthusiasts have countless resources to turn to. With so many different online motoring groups catering for general as well as specific niche subjects, current car enthusiasts are able to connect with other like minded fans that are just as passionate about lean, mean motor vehicles as themselves.
So anyone tempted to get an eyeful of remarkably built vehicles or to experience the sheer thrill of speed and competition by ripping down the drag strip, the street car racing scene is sure to deliver; after all, when the flag comes into sight and the engine begins to rev, there’s no looking back; in fact, there is only one way to go; foot to the floor, full speed ahead.

Just how fast can Indy cars go? Well, to give you an idea, Indy cars can make it down the length of a football field plus some in less then one second. Jet airliners takeoff speeds are between 160 to 180 miles per hour. Throw some flaps or slats and a pair of wings on an Indy car, point it into the wind and there would be take off; that is how fast Indy cars can go.
Back in 1911 Ray Harroun won the very first Indianapolis 500 averaging just a hair under 75 mph. However, how fast can an Indy car go today? The average speeds of Indy cars today range from 185 to speeds over 230 miles per hour. Qualifying speeds range from 215 to 227 miles per hour. The lowest qualifying speed was recorded back in 1912 when Theodore Pilette ran 75.52 mph for a quarter mile. Back then, you had to run at least 75 mph in a quarter mile to qualify. Kenny Brack did the fastest speed recorded in qualifications at 227.598 mph in a quarter in 2005, followed up by Billy Boat in 2002, running a quarter at 226.589.
So when you ask how fast can Indy Cars go, think of this. Indy cars can accelerate from zero to 100 mph in less than three seconds and use up a gallon of gas in less then two miles. Drivers experience G-force while driving through turns on the track equal to what the space shuttle leaves a launching pad. At speeds of 220 miles per hour, Indy cars generate 5000 pounds of down force. At that speed the tread on the racing tires turn to tar like consistency helping car to adhere to the track.
Indy cars have evolved through time to higher levels of sophistication. In the beginning of the 20th century, speeds of 125 mph on the track where considered impressive. Rules have been modified as technology has improved with racing organizations ensuring the safety of both the drivers and the fans. With the strict rules and regulations, today’s Indy cars are far safer then their earlier counter parts such as the roadsters designs.
In 2010, the Indy Racing League will be implementing new engine rules that will allow the return of turbocharged engines that will have a output of about 750 horsepower ; having either 4 or 6 cylinders. Current specifications in regulations are an output of 650 HP. The 3.5 liter Indy cars on a average produce more then 675 horsepower which is four times more then your average car. So when you question how fast can Indy cars go, averaging 220 mph is pretty fast, but we can expect to see even quicker acceleration and speeds on the raceways in the near future.

With fourteen races already in the books in the 2007 Nextel Cup Series, Chevrolet cars are still dominating the field with thirteen wins. The only other car to finish at this year’s Nextel Cup is Matt Kenseth’s Number 17 Ford at the Auto Club 500, the second race of the season. From that race through the Ponoco 500 held at the Pocono Raceway, the Chevrolet Impalas have won every race.
The Dodge Avenger NASCAR car though is making a challenge to the domination of Chevrolet with back-to-back second place for Ryan Newman who is driving the Number 12 Dodge Avenger.
At the Pocono 500, the Dodge cars fielded for this year’s Nextel Cup Series has been fitted with new noses in the hope that the change will give Dodge its first win of the season. Unfortunately though, critics pointed out that the new nose installed may have cost Dodge a win at the race.
Mike Accavitti, the Director of the Dodge Brand and SRT Marketing and Communication, has this to say about the new nose having put them behind the competition: “We tested the nose together several times last year. We all came to a conclusion. We all reached an agreement that it was the right thing to do. Every team had an input and every team agreed to that. When we put the nose on the car, it affected the suspension setup more on those downforce tracks than we had anticipated. It’s taken a little while to get our arms around what the issues were and get some action plans in place.”
Accavitti also pointed out that aside from focusing on the performance of their current cars, they are also exerting effort on improving their performance of the Car of Tomorrow which is also known as the COT. “At the same time, we’re trying to figure out the COT, so that’s really what kind of got us behind the 8 ball. We feel like we’re really picking up some steam now in our performance, average finish performance is showing it,” he said.
One of the most promising young drivers this season driving a Dodge is Kasey Kahne. The 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year has not finished in the top ten since the first race of the season. Normally, it would cause for concern for Dodge. Accavitti though is confident that Kahne has what it takes to perform well for the remainder of the season. “Kasey is the real deal. We have the utmost faith in Kasey and the Evernham Motorsports Organization. They’re a class act team, and they’re going to do what they need to do to get Kasey back in victory lane,” says Accavitti.
While Kasey Kahne is struggling, Ryan Newman, another Dodge driver, is performing well. He seems to be coasting in the most recent races of the season as if he is driving a Dodge cold air intake system-equipped Dodge Charger. Accavitti addressed the success of Newman compared to the lackluster performance of other Dodge cars saying: “This is one of the biggest issues we’ve had. We can go incredibly fast as a group for one lap. We saw this actually last year. Last year the hypothesis was that it’s a clean air issue.”
With the Dodge cars receiving modifications and improving their performance, it would be easy to believe that a Dodge victory will be coming soon.

The rainy days can either be fun or not. When you have your RC car, truck or plane out in the pavement, track or field, the last thing that you need is for the heavens to pour its water over you. But don’t blame the heavens if it rain. For all you know, rain can be a good thing for other people. The point in racing RC cars is that keeping it in good condition at all times, no matter the weather, is a top responsibility by the owner.
Keeping a good performing RC car is not very hard to do. Though it can take most of your time for doing it, if you look at your work in the end, you won’t regret it in any way. There are several things which you need to check on, and this concerns the wheels because it is in contact to the wet ground. The front spindles should be checked first and if there is any slop on the wheels, clean it out. Checking also the tightness of the wheels after it got wet is important. Check the wheels, shake it and if you think its loose, go ahead and pad or shim it then replace if necessary.
As for cleanliness, check the ball stud or also called the ball cup for any excess dirt. This is the part of your RC car that keeps a lot of unnecessary dirt and when it rains, it doesn’t make your cleaning job any easier. Since dust, heat and rain wears this part of your RC car, you might want to check this area regularly and see if its needed for replacement.
Since there are parts of your car that are made out of plastic and metal, be concerned with the plastic made parts more. They are prone to easy wear, tear and cracks. Replace any part that are in this condition. The metal parts are not an exception, do check them as well.
When you check all these, you wouldn’t be worried much of your next race or run outside – even if it rains.
