The Opel Vectra Very Impressive

On the road the front-wheel drive Opel Vectra is very impressive, delivering a high-level of sophistication & refinement — a safe haven if you like — but without totally seceding from its bread-and-butter, mid-sized rootsThe more opulent, more expensive CDX is basically a dead ringer for the CD in most key areas, save for the 3.2-litre ECOTEC V6 powerplant (which is only available in automatic) & extra inside touches: 6 stack CD player, velour trim, trip computer and four-spoke steering wheelThe first thing that took my fancy on the CD was the capacious rear-end. There was more than enough room to accommodate my two-child family — and I’m talking young nippers, so that’s a lot of accessories Its 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine is claimed to produce 108kW of power at 5600rpm and 203Nm of torque at 4000rpm — in comparison, the 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine in the Mazda 6 produces 122kW and 207Nm. The engine output only equates to a small gain on its predecessor, but it is most certainly honest enough for my conservative family-friendly purposes.

. The automatic gearbox in both Vectras felt very refined, allowing the CD for one to lope along at 2500rpm at 115km/h. That helped to produce fuel economy of 7.99lt/100km, which equates to around 750km out of the 61-litre tank.. Power windows and mirrors, finger-touch steering column controls, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, nine-speaker CD stereo, cruise control, tilt and reach adjustable steering wheel, variable intermittent wipers and air-conditioning are all part of the package As you’d expect from something that is zeroing in on the likes of the BMW 3-Series, all the driver inputs are silky smooth, without delving into the realms of super-responsive. That holds for the likes of the steering, and controls — the gear shift will have to wait until I’ve driven the manual.Search Used BMW Cars Wicklow.ie for a brilliant deal.

When Will Used Car Prices Go Back Down In The UK

Recent reports have shown that the price of used cars has risen dramatically in recent years. Average prices of used cars in the UK have risen by around £600 according to News for British Car Auctions. The main reason for this increase is because of the state of the economy over the last few years. This has led to a reduction in the number of new cars which have been sold over the past few years. What happens then is that there is a shortage in the used car market because there are less people trading in their old cars in order to buy a new car.

The price of used cars at the moment is the result of supply and demand factors. The reduction in supply is caused by a lack of people selling their old cars. And the demand for used cars has increased because there are less people able to afford the price of a new car. As you can see both supply and demand are begin affected and this is causing prices to rise. An increase in supply or reduction in demand will cause the prices of used cars to drop but it would be even better if both happened.

It is hard to speculate on how long this rise in used car prices is going to last. With bad news always hot on the heels of any good news, it is no wonder that people are still a bit cautious about the economy. We still aren’t confident enough to make a purchase as big as this and it is getting harder to get finance for purchases such as this too. Hopefully this will soon change, but it is hard to predict one way or the other. It would not be good for the car industry if things carried on as they are at the moment.

If the time has come for you to be searching out used cars for sale, it’s always best to carry out a proper research ahead of time. This reserach will let you find the best cars available for each category you look at. When your research is done, you could very well end up with a great used cars for sale liverpool or even a used cars for sale reading.

Auto Crash – Being In An Automobile Collision Is Extremely Commonplace In Folks’ Lives

The majority of people, at some point in their lifetime, will be involved in an automobile collision. You may not have been the driver, but somehow, an auto crash may affect your life. Consider yourself fortunate if you don’t know someone, or know someone who knows somebody, who lost their life in an auto accident. We’ve all heard horror stories about drunk drivers who wind up killing an innocent family or individual. When a teenager dies in a tragic accident because they were driving irresponsibly, we all shake our heads in disbelief. Sadly enough, most auto accidents could be prevented if folks simply paid closer attention to their environment and had more respect for others.

I mean consider it – even if the crash isn’t serious enough to cost a life or affect serious injury, it can still total your car.  This makes it impossible to ever go to the used car lot and trade it in, plus you will have to instantaneously take your cash and start shopping new and used cars for a replacement – and it’s probable that used cars will be everything you can afford!

Drunk driving doesn’t need to happen. That’s the easiest type of auto crash to stay away from. Simply make the responsible choice to not drive and drink. Too often, the drunk driver is the one to survive the accident and the sober people end up losing their lives. It not ever seems fair. When you make the decision to climb behind the wheel after having some drinks, you are showing that you have no respect for yourself or other people. A lot of accidents also occur because people just aren’t paying close attention. Every day, I see tons of drivers whiz past me while talking a mile a minute on their cell phones. People may suppose that they are being responsible by purchasing hands-free kits for talking while driving, but anytime you are interested in anything besides the road, you are generating a potential tragedy. Perhaps it isn’t a mobile telephone that’s distracting you. I’ve seen folks reading the newspaper while driving, putting on make-up, and my personal favorite – painting their fingernails. I’m shocked that more people aren’t killed on a daily basis in my hometown because of the ludicrous things that I’ve seen.

Anytime you are focused on something apart from the road and other autos around you, it is putting everyone at risk. You might be singing along with the radio, drumming your palms on the dash and not see the light turning red in front of you. There are still tons of individuals who seem to think that a yellow light means drive as rapidly as is possible to beat the light. Regrettably, the person who is receiving the green light might not know that you imagine you can beat the light. Suddenly, your rush to beat the light ends up in an auto accident that may have been prevented.

Take the time to glance around you while you are driving. Realize that there are so many individuals around you who just do not have time for an auto crash that day. Learn to prevent them.

Audi A3 Compact Hatch

Buy Used Cars For Sale In Ireland

The Audi A3 is 50mm longer and wider than before,  It also allowed engineers to move the wheels further apart,. This, combined with a lower centre of gravity in the 1200kg hatch, should improve the vehicle’s on-road dynamics no end. Interior space is up on the previous model due equally to the car’s larger overall dimensions and a lower seating height. It’s still a compact hatch, so don’t expect stretching luxury. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes, & the driver’s seat adjusts for height, backrest rake & squab slide. The A3’s bootspace is surprisingly big, and managed to hold a week’s luggage for two .Woodgrain door trim and alloy highlights on the door handle, aircon knobs and glovebox add life to the cabin. Alloy surrounds on the strangely protruding air vents, which bulge out of the dashboard, only draw attention to a less cohesive design element.Creature comforts on the vehicle included electric windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player along with dual front and side airbags for safety. Rain sensing windscreen wipers and light sensing headlights are also a feature of the new Audi A3.Safety is an important part of any car buying decision, and Audi’s catered for this in the new A3. The A3’s body structure is stronger and more rigid than before, and modifications to crash performance and crumble zones are said to improve occupant protection. Dual front airbags are standard as are side headbags for front seat occupants. The front seats feature active head restraints; the headrests move forward in the event of a collision to ‘catch’ the occupant’s head and reduce whiplash.Another new technology that’ll pop up is DSG, specifically Direct Shift Gearbox. It’s a unique double-clutch gearbox which ‘pre-selects’ the next forward gear using a two part transmission shaft. Audi reckons this improves straightl-ine performance by eliminating the clutch-actuated interruption of power.

The Mitsubishi TL Magna The Quiet Achiever

The Mitsubishi TL Magna is without a doubt the quiet achiever of the large car scene. It outsells Toyota Camry V6 easily. Comfort in the Magna/Verada is pretty good, though we have a hard time looking past the compromised driving position. Mitsubishi has decided not to fit reach-adjustable steering on this car. That said, Mitsubishi has one up on the opposition, offering electrical height and slide adjustment on the driver’s seat right across the Magna/Verada range. Lumbar adjust is also fitted to all models, & a lever to easily tilt adjust the backrest. The front seats are comfortable over long distances, the rear seats have enough legroom and headroom to accommodate six footers and three abreast in the rear is cosy but not uncomfortable. There’s plenty of space in the boot, but the back seats don’t split fold for longer loads. Mitsubishi has chosen to add extra metal sheeting behind the rear seats to stop luggage intruding during rear-end collisions which only allows a little ski-hole in the centre.

Dual front airbags and side airbags are now standard across the entire Magna range, as are electric seatbelt pretensioners. Traction control is standard on all automatic models bar the ES. Four wheel, antilock disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution is standard across the range.

Alll of the Magna models are powered by a 3.five litre V6 engine with four valves per cylinder and one camshaft per bank. The Magna ES and LS, and Veradai Ei and Xi have

The sedan’s all-independent suspension has been modified slightly with the fitment of a rear stabiliser bar on all models which is said to improve handling. Changes to spring rates and shock absorbers increase the Magna’s sporting prowess with little detriment to ride quality, with the AWD variants featuring unique tuning.

If the world was a simpler place the front drive Magna would win every vehicle comparison hands down. If people acknowledged the difference between their motoring aspirations and motoring reality, the Magna would fit the bill for just about every large car buyer. It’s comfy, quiet, powerful and it handles most driving situations with ease.Search Used Toyota cars for sale Westmeath for the car of your dreams.

The Jeep Cherokee And Grand Cherokee Diesel

The Jeep Cherokee’s common-rail direct injection engine is basically a larger, more powerful 2.8-litre version of the 2.5-litre diesel already available with the Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee, despite its all-American heritage, gains a direct-injection diesel and matching five-speed automatic transmission from Mercedes-Benz – one of the benefits of the Daimler-Chrysler tie-up.

Whereas traditional diesel engines use a mechanical pump to fire fuel to individual injectors, the CRD engine uses a high-pressure pump to deliver the produce via a single fuel rail.

.For acceleration, the 2.7-litre diesel is only slightly off the mark compared to the Grand Cherokee’s standard 4.7-litre petrol V8 – 11.2sec for the 0-100km/h – and mostly makes light work of lugging its hefty 1925kg body around.

The Grand Cherokee’s V8 produces more power, but the diesel offers impressive torque figures. Both produce a similar peak of around 400Nm, but the diesel achieves this at much lower revs – between 1800-2600rpm – which makes it a better proposition for off-road driving and towing.

In fact, the diesel has the best towing capacity (3360kg) in the Grand Cherokee line-up, which is good news for those wanting to pull a big boat, caravan or horse float.

The diesel’s low-down pulling power came to the fore during the more challenging off-road sections. With a good spread of torque early on, and low-range gearing, the diesel Grand Cherokee takes steep, slippery inclines in its stride. Good height clearance combined with a plush ride also allows it to sweep along rutted fire trails with ease.

The Grand Cherokee also copes well with steep declines, despite the lack of any electronic descent aids common on many of its rivals. Again, low-range combined with controlled engine braking allows for a safer crawl down sharp drops.Front and back-side curtain airbags, as well as front airbags, are now standard, as are rain sensing front wipers. Kia Rio Its Great Value

Value for money was Kia’s big claim, with the Firm pointing out that the Rio was a four or five door, well equipped and had a 1.5-litre engine. Both Daewoo, and Hyundai, which now owns Kia, have also moved in a very different design direction for their entry-level hatches with the Kalos and Getz adopting taller more versatile Euro-style bodies. Visually, the car has been sharpened up at the front end with new bonnet and sheetmetal forward of the A-pillar, while the tail has also undergone some styling modifications. But it is mechanically that Kia states the biggest improvements have been made.Bigger brakes pull the car up easily although caution is advised in the wet as they are quick to lock up and the 13-inch Hankook tyres don’t offer a great deal of grip. The stiffer body and stronger suspension does, however, mean that the ride is less comfortable. It’s average over smooth tarmac, but as soon as you get onto rougher urban roads, the car jiggles about and nearly every imperfection in the road surface can be felt through the seats. Kia claims the seats use a new variable density foam for comfort but they still feel too thin and don’t offer much support on longer trips. They are covered in a new cloth trim, which now also features on the doors, but like the rest of the interior, remain an inoffensive, but rather bland grey. Space inside is reasonable up front, with plenty of storage cubbies and good door bins, but rear headroom and especially legroom, is minimal. There is only a lap belt for the centre rear passenger. The boot is a decent size with a capacity of 269 litres that can be expanded by folding the one-piece rear seat back down.Kia’s value for money spin means that the car is reasonably well equipped and comes standard with central locking, driver airbag and radio/CD player Search Used BMW Cars For Sale Wexford for a car you desire.

The Renault Megane Verdict

It doesn’t take long to spot the Megane hatch’s most distinctive feature, as its bold styling definitely marks this as a car that stands out from the crowd. Its dynamic, radical look has polarised punters since it first appeared in Europe

The biggest departure from the norm is the hatch, which although a great design, does compromise the boot space. In contrast the saloon, though stylish, is a conservative design, which will appeal to buyers who prefer to blend into their surroundings rather than draw attention to themselves.

There is very long list of standard equipment that is unusual for a small car of this class, including cruise control, automatic headlights, rain-sensing automatic windscreen wipers and speed-sensitive variable power assistance for the steering.

The front MacPherson strut, rear torsion beam suspension is well damped, ensuring a comfortable ride over all sorts of surfaces at a variety of speeds. The solid build of the car and the addition of loads of insulation material means the levels of noise vibration and harshness are also extremely low.

On the equipment front, the car is well specced, even in its base form, with power front and rear windows (one touch up and down for the driver), remote central locking with a credit card style key and push button starter, air-conditioning and a six-speaker radio CD player..

The Megane was the first car in its genre to get a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating — the highest possible — and apart from its wonderful road manners giving a very sure and predictable means of avoiding a crash in the first place, is packed with passive safety features.

Stopping power is provided by four disc brakes, fitted with an anti-lock system that incorporates electronic brake force distribution and brake assist functions. Although effective, the brakes are applied with a pedal that initially feels a tad soft.

What Mistakes To Avoid When Buying Used Cars

If you are considering purchasing used cars you may want to learn from the mistakes of other people. These mistakes are unfortunately repeated by used car buyers on an almost continuous basis. There really is no reason for these mistakes to be made like this. The regret or remorse felt after a used car purchase could more than likely have been avoided if the buyer had just put a little thought into the purchase beforehand. The following mistakes are ones that you should avoid if you are thinking of buying a used car.

- Never purchase a vehicle off anybody unless you are satisfied that they are who they say they are this is particularly important when dealing with private sales. You might be a little bit embarrassed to ask the seller to show you some identification but you would be silly not to do this. Don’t expect too much sympathy off anyone if you bought a car from someone without checking who they are. Be prepared to walk away from the sale if you feel that the seller is a little bit hesitant about showing you the correct paperwork.

- Make sure that when it comes to inspecting the car or taking it for a test drive, that you are not in any way rushed by the seller. If they do seem to be trying to hurry you up then you have every right to be suspicious. If you want to really check for problems with the car then you have to be able to take your time checking it over and taking a long test drive.

- Always fully check any documentation related to the vehicle and don’t buy a car if this paperwork looks like it has been tampered with. It is advisable that you have a look at what this paperwork should look like before you make any purchase; that way you will better be able to spot problems.

There you have just a few ideas about how avoid making mistakes when purchasing used cars.

If the time has come for you to be searching out cars for sale, you may end up much better off by thoroughly researching the cars that interest you. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used cars for sale canterbury or even a used cars for sale london.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK

The Mercedes-Benz SLK’s cockpit is austere yet attractive and combines hard-edged sportiness with comfort. The fully adjustable sports seats are firm and feature magnesium backrests, and there’s extra interior space than the outgoing model, made possible by the increase in exterior body dimensions.

The dash is serious-looking and features an instrument display with two large dial instruments that are slanted towards the driver.

. Side airbags and two-stage belt force limiters are standard fit, and are activated by a sensor if the car rolls. Mercedes-Benz states it has spent a lot of effort on the roadster’s roll-over protection, such as integrating high-strength steel plates into the structure of the A-pillars to help the roll-bars withstand high loads.

. The car is wider (72mm) and its wheelbase longer (30mm), and Mercedes-Benz has made the most of the extra room by allowing for a large crumple zone and underside cross-member for protection against collisions from the rear.

The SLK 350 gets a lightweight braking system that incorporates perforated front discs designed to disperse dirt and water for driving in wet weather conditions. The version of ESP with the second-generation SLK is offered with a tyre pressure loss warning system.

. The two-litre, four-cylinder supercharged engine in the SLK 200 is rated at 120kW and 240Nm & features variable valve timing, affording better torque, economy & emissions results.

. Intake ports have been optimised, incorporating pivoting ‘tumble flaps’ to create turbulence, increasing the speed and evenness of airflow into the combustion chambers. It’s clever and helps create a free-breathing, willing response.

It also features variably adjusted camshafts and newly-developed twin-pipe intake system, and gets sports suspension and chassis treatment involving firmer settings and lower ride.

.

Various sizes of disc brakes are offered, depending on model, ranging from 288 and 340mm in size. They are internally ventilated and Mercedes-Benz says that the cooling of discs and bearings has been enhanced.Search Used Cars Ireland
